Internet Explorer Blank PDF Issue

In Internet Explorer 8 and previous versions there is an issue when viewing a PDF and other downloadable documents when logging in using the 'Public or shared computer' option. If the link selected opens in a new window, it opens blank. If the link opens in the active window, nothing happens when you click it. If you right clicking the link and choosing Save Target As you get an error "Internet Explorer cannot download viewattachment.iom from The file could not be written to the cache.".

In order to resolve this you can

  • Using Internet Explorer 8 select "Safety --> InPrivate browsing" then login to Online Services as "private" place. (If you are using Internet Explorer prior to version 8 then you will need to upgrade.)
  • Upgrading to the latest version of Internet Explorer.
  • Login to Online Services using a different browser such as Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome etc.
