Licence Type

Please select the type of licence required. Please refer to the Inland Fisheries Regulations 2011 for full details of the type of licence available.

Reservoir licences are available for fishing for trout and rainbow trout by a single rod and line in the 6 reservoirs specified in the Inland Fisheries Regulations 2011 and in a private or commercial trout fishery.

Other Water licences are available for fishing for salmon, migratory trout, trout, rainbow trout and eels by single rod and line in waters other than the reservoirs or a coarse fishery.

Both Reservoir and Other Water licences are valid for fishing for trout and rainbow trout in a private or commercial trout fishery.

Coarse Fish licences are now available for fishing for coarse fish species with a single rod and line in any coarse fishery or in Eairy Dam.

Concessionary reservoir licences are available for OAPs and disabled persons, for reservoir fishing only. These can be purchased from DEFA at St Johns or from a Post Office.

Licence Category

Please select Season, Week or Day.

  • Season – valid from start of season or from date of purchase (all Child licences are for a season).
  • Week – valid for a specified period of 7 days (NB 'Other Waters' Young Person week licences are not available).
  • Day – valid for a specified day only.
  • Coarse Fish licences are only available for a SEASON

Please note that the brown trout and eel fishing season in rivers closes on 30th September. Anglers wishing to fish for salmon and sea trout in rivers in the month of October must be in possession of a SEASON Other Waters Licence.

Other Water Week and Day licences are not valid for any date beyond 30 September for fishing in rivers.

Concession

Please select Adult, Young Person or Child.

  • Adult- persons aged 19 years and over.
  • Young Person – a person who has attained their 14th birthday but has not yet attained their 19th birthday. This licence is no longer valid once the person is 19 years old. An adult licence should then be purchased. A young person who will turn 19 during the fishing season may choose to buy an adult season licence to cover the whole season.
  • Child –a person who will not have attained their 14th birthday by 31st December in the year of issue of a licence.

Please note that Concessionary reservoir licences are not available for purchase online as proof of eligibility is required. These licences can be purchased from a Post Office or DEFA HQ at St Johns.

Start Licence From

For week and day licences only, season licences are valid from the start of the season or date of purchase.

Please note that the brown trout and eel fishing season ends on 30th September. Anglers fishing for migratory fish in the month of October must hold an Other Waters SEASON licence.

Week and Day Other Water licences are not valid for fishing from 1 October onwards.

Important Information for Anglers:

It is an offence not to be in possession of a valid fishing licence whilst fishing - please carry your licence with you at all times whilst fishing.

The Regulations relating to freshwater angling in the Isle of Man were revised and amended in 2011.

The new Regulations came into operation in March 2012 and all anglers must be fully aware of all the legislation relating to freshwater fishing including The Inland Fisheries Regulations before going fishing.
